Summary
Igloo Software, a cloud intranet provider, today announced it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the Magic Quadrant for Social Software in the Workplace. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Igloo, a service designed for the mid-market, has appeared in the report1.
According to Gartner, the business objectives addressed by social software deployments have stayed largely the same over time. IT and business leaders alike are looking to: improve general communication and information sharing, boost team productivity and effectiveness, support communities that stimulate learning and innovation, diffuse best practices, and encourage peer-to-peer networking that strengthens professional and interpersonal relationships.
Gartner states (in regards to social software aimed first at end users), “the value proposition is based primarily on attracting individual users through a compelling user experience (often derived from similar consumer services); instant gratification (through free or freemium products and self-service that does not require any IT support); frequent automatic updates; cloud-based delivery, making it easy to access information from outside the corporate firewall and easy to invite external participants; and full access from mobile devices (with some vendors pursuing “mobile first” strategies).”
Commentary
“Mid-market companies require the same functionality as the enterprise, but on a smaller scale and in a self-service platform that’s easier to manage,” said Andrew Dixon, Igloo’s Senior Vice President. “Despite the growing presence of well-established software companies, we continue to play witness to a changing of the guard where older, established systems with deep functionality are being displaced by more flexible systems like Igloo that empower the end user.”
